Great to meet you!

Hello! My name is Shelly McCurdy, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. A born and raised Texan, I have served the greater Austin area, as well as Caldwell, Hays, and Comal counties, since 2010 as both an intern and fully licensed counselor. I attended St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas, for my master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, for my bachelor's in Psychology.

I have been trained in Trust-Based Relational Intervention, and Circle of Security, both focused on helping parents and families navigate day-to-day and difficult situations.

At present, I work with teenagers, young adults, women in their 30s and 40s, and the elderly with life transitions, ADHD, depression, anxiety, grief & loss, and trauma.

My approach to therapy

I focus most of my sessions around Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy, while also using mindfulness, play & art, and other counseling techniques when applicable. Homework is often assigned, whether that is practicing the techniques discussed in session, reading an article, or journaling. Each client's capacity is different, and I strive to make certain clients are being met at the place they are at the time of each session.

What you can expect from me

One of my goals for clients in counseling is to feel safe enough to give feedback, whether that's to let me know a technique worked or not, and to be able to say that they don't want to or cannot attempt a technique or homework assignment. Giving feedback is one of the most vulnerable moments, and I want to give clients the ability to see that I am a safe place to be vulnerable without judgment or punishment.
