Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Dr. Shereen Arulpragasam, a clinical psychologist with a doctorate from Michigan State University. Many of my clients come to me carrying the long shadow of trauma, sleep that no longer restores them, chronic pain or illness that has reshaped daily life, the relentless static of ADHD, the cycles of bipolar disorder, or depression and anxiety that have outstayed their welcome. I've worked across outpatient clinics, inpatient units, partial hospitalization programs, rehabilitation programs, and Veterans Administration Medical Centers, which means I've helped people through the full spectrum of what mental health care can look like. I've also been fortunate to have lived in five countries and across the West, Midwest, Northeast, and South of the United States, and I bring that appreciation for the diversity of human experience into every session.

My approach to therapy

My work is grounded in evidence-based treatments: the kind that have been studied, tested, and shown to actually help. I use Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for trauma and PTSD, both of which give you a structured path through difficult memories without forcing you to relive every detail. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) for clients struggling to sleep, and CBT for pain for those navigating chronic pain or illness, both of which build practical skills you can use night after night and day after day. I also draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you make room for what's hard while still moving toward the life you actually want.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is about getting to know each other. There's no pressure to dive into the hardest parts of your story right away. I'll ask what brought you in, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping would feel different in your life. You'll get to ask me questions too: how I work, what therapy will actually look like week to week, and whether we feel like the right fit. By the end, we'll start to map out which skills and approaches might be most helpful for you. It has always been a great joy of mine to help patients build the kind of toolkit that lets them live a life they find meaningful and full.
