Great to meet you!

I grew up in a small rural town and experienced both the benefits and the drawbacks of such a childhood. Knowing there was more "out there", I left at 18 to broaden my horizons. I've lived in both rural and major metropolitan areas, traveled a fair amount, and experienced a wide variety of cultures along the way.

I earned my Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology while my kids were in school, and have been loving my career choice ever since!

Over the years, I've discovered the depth and breadth of the effects of trauma. I've studied Critical Incident Stress Debriefing for the prevention of trauma response, as well as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) for the treatment of existing trauma. I also have training in the treatment of anxiety and depression.

My approach to therapy

I enjoy hearing people's stories and gathering information from them that they might not even know they possess! It is in this way that the client discovers their own resources and knowledge.

Introducing people to their own power is key in my approach. I also believe in respect and dignity as a primary way of interacting with clients. That said, I do sometimes use humor to offer observations that may be initially hard to hear.

I believe in deep connection and working to build rapport and trust with the folks I work with. We are valuable and wonderful beings and I invite us to celebrate that together!

What you can expect from me

My hope is that clients will leave with new ways of looking at existing situations, responses, and challenges. It's wonderful when people make new connections about themselves and their thoughts and feelings! I love it when clients arrive at their next session with questions about things they've thought about, and stories about approaches and techniques they've practiced in daily life.
