Great to meet you!

You've had the same argument more times than you can count. You love each other — but something between you keeps breaking down, and you're not sure how much longer you can keep going in circles. That's exactly where I do my best work.

Hi, I'm Sherrod — a Licensed Professional Counselor, retired 21-year Navy Veteran, and Pastor with over 13 years of clinical experience. That combination isn't common, and it matters. It means I bring military-grade directness, pastoral depth, and clinical structure into every session — not just theory, but the kind of understanding that only comes from actually living through hard things. My work is rooted in Isaiah 61 — the belief that people can move from brokenness to restoration. Not just managed, not just coping — genuinely restored. Most couples arrive carrying a scoreboard — who said what, who did what, who owes an apology. We set that down early. Not because it doesn't matter, but because winning an argument has never saved a marriage. The argument you keep having isn't really about dishes or money. The anger that keeps coming back isn't random. There's a pattern underneath it — and once you can see it clearly, you can change it. I use tools like the Prepare/Enrich assessment to cut through the noise and identify exactly what's driving the disconnect, so we're solving problems, not just talking about them. I also work with men — particularly those navigating anger, stress, or emotional overload — who need a therapist who won't waste their time. If therapy has felt soft or unclear in the past, this will feel different. Sessions are focused and structured. You won't leave wondering what just happened. You'll leave with clarity — about yourself, your patterns, and your next step.

My approach to therapy

My approach is direct, structured, and built around one goal: lasting change — not just better weeks. I work beneath the surface — not just on the presenting problem, but on the patterns driving it. The argument you keep having isn't really about dishes or money. The anger that keeps coming back isn't random. Once we identify the pattern clearly, we can interrupt it. Sessions are focused and intentional. I won't sit across from you and nod — I'll ask hard questions, offer honest perspective, and hold you to the work. With respect. Without judgment. In your first session, here's what to expect: We'll spend time getting clear on what brought you in and what you actually want to be different. I'll ask questions that go beneath the surface — not to challenge you, but because the answer is usually where the real work begins. By the end of session one, you'll have a clear sense of what we're working on and how we're going to approach it together. You won't leave wondering what just happened. If you've avoided therapy because it felt unclear or unproductive — this will feel different.

What you can expect from me

The first session isn't about diving straight into your history — it's about getting oriented together. We'll start by getting clear on what brought you in and what you actually want to be different. Not just the surface problem — but what's underneath it. What's the pattern you keep running into? What have you already tried? What would it mean if this actually changed?I'll ask direct questions — not to challenge you, but because the answers are usually where the real work begins. You won't be doing all the talking while I take notes. This is a conversation, and I'm engaged in it.By the end of the first session you'll have three things: a clear sense of what we're actually working on, an honest read on whether we're a good fit, and a direction — not a vague plan, a real next step.If faith is part of your life and you want it part of your healing, we'll talk about that in session one. If not, we work from wherever you stand. You won't leave wondering what just happened. That's the standard I hold every session to — including the first one.
