Great to meet you!

Shevonne Sims, LPC, is a Licensed Professional Counselor providing outpatient therapy services to adults in a private practice setting. Shevonne earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Saint Joseph in 2014 and began her career in community mental health, serving underserved and high-needs populations. This experience shaped her commitment to compassionate, ethical, and evidence-based care.

Shevonne integrates a range of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and faith-integrated practices, tailoring treatment to meet each client’s unique needs and values. She has experience addressing concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions, and approaches therapy with a strengths-based, hope-oriented perspective.

For clients who desire it, Shevonne thoughtfully incorporates Christian faith into the therapeutic process, viewing spirituality as a meaningful resource for healing and growth while always respecting client autonomy and clinical best practices.

Shevonne believes therapy is a collaborative process and strives to create a safe, supportive space where adults can explore challenges, build resilience, and move toward lasting emotional and spiritual well-being.

My approach to therapy

I draw from evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy, while remaining flexible and responsive to what feels most helpful for you in the moment. Together, we identify patterns, explore challenges, and build tools that support emotional resilience and long-term change.

For clients who desire it, I thoughtfully integrate faith into the therapeutic process, viewing spirituality as a meaningful source of strength and hope. Faith is never imposed yet gently incorporated in a way that aligns with your values and supports your overall well-being.

My goal is to create a supportive and nonjudgmental space where adults feel heard, understood, and empowered. Whether you are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or life transitions, therapy with me is a partnership—focused on helping you move beyond survival and toward healing and wholeness.

What you can expect from me

What to Expect in the First Session

The first therapy session is a time for us to get to know each other and begin building a safe, trusting relationship. My goal is for you to feel comfortable, heard, and supported from the very beginning.

We’ll start by talking about what brought you to therapy and what you’re hoping to gain from our work together. I’ll ask some questions to better understand your background, current concerns, and any past experiences with therapy. This information helps me get a fuller picture of you—not just the challenges you’re facing, but your strengths, supports, and what has helped or not helped in the past.

Relationship-building is an important part of the first session. Therapy works best when there is trust, so I take time to explain how therapy works, answer any questions you may have, and review confidentiality and expectations. You are always in control of what you choose to share, and we move at a pace that feels right for you.

Together, we’ll begin identifying goals for therapy. These goals can be short-term or long-term and may evolve over time. If faith or spirituality is important to you, we can also discuss how you would like that to be incorporated into our work.

By the end of the session, you should have a clearer understanding of the therapy process and feel a sense of direction for next steps. Most importantly, my hope is that you leave feeling supported, respected, and hopeful about the journey ahead.
