Great to meet you!

Sofia Alonso, LMFT, APCC, is a licensed therapist with a private practice in Orange County, California, and a professor in the Master’s program at Pepperdine University. She brings a strong clinical and academic foundation to her work, supporting clients with compassion, cultural sensitivity, and evidence-based care.

Sofia holds dual credentials as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC) in California. In addition, she is credentialed as a Psychologist in Mexico, allowing her to integrate an international and multicultural perspective into her clinical practice.

She has advanced training in several evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). These approaches allow her to effectively support children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families experiencing a wide range of emotional, relational, and trauma-related concerns.

Sofia also provides immigration-related psychological services, including asylum evaluations and hardship waiver assessments, conducted with professionalism, cultural humility, and adherence to ethical and legal standards.

Through her combined roles as a clinician and educator, Sofia is dedicated to fostering healing, resilience, and growth while maintaining a warm, structured, and client-centered approach. Her work reflects a commitment to clinical excellence, advocacy, and meaningful therapeutic relationships.

My approach to therapy

I bring both professionalism and authenticity to my work and feel deeply honored to walk alongside clients through periods of transition, healing, and growth. You are the expert in your own life, and my role is to provide guidance, insight, and evidence-based tools to help you move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

As a bilingual therapist, I offer sessions in English and Spanish, ensuring language is not a barrier to connection or expression. I am trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) to support healthier parent-child relationships and reduce challenging behaviors, and EMDR therapy to help clients process trauma and distressing experiences in a safe, structured manner.

What you can expect from me

In therapy, I strive to foster a warm, nonjudgmental, and supportive environment where your concerns are heard and your goals are prioritized. I am dedicated to helping you develop practical skills, deeper self-awareness, and lasting resilience as you navigate life’s complexities.
