Great to meet you!

Dr. Sofya Vasilyeva works with individuals and couples navigating perinatal and postpartum challenges, anxiety and depression, trauma (including PTSD and complex relational trauma), eating disorders and body image concerns, and adult children of alcoholics. She also supports couples and families facing conflict, parenting stress, and blended dynamics, as well as immigrants and multicultural clients—including Russian-speaking individuals and multicultural couples—exploring identity and acculturation.

Her approach is grounded in psychodynamic therapy, helping clients understand how early experiences and unconscious patterns shape the present, alongside EMDR to process and integrate distressing memories. She is also the author of a workbook for adult children of alcoholics, and her work reflects a deep commitment to healing relational trauma.

My approach to therapy

My style is collaborative, warm, and practical. I believe therapy should feel like both a safe space to process emotions and a place where you gain concrete tools you can use in your daily life. I work with clients to set clear goals and focus on strategies that support real change, while also exploring the deeper patterns that shape how you relate to yourself and others.

I integrate evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and EMDR, alongside depth-oriented and Jungian perspectives when helpful. This means we might work on managing anxiety or improving sleep with specific skills, while also looking at underlying themes such as self-worth, identity, or relational patterns.

I have specialized training in perinatal and postpartum mental health, anxiety management, and recovery from burnout and relationship stress. My goal is to meet you where you are, help you build resilience, and support you in creating lasting, meaningful change.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, I take time to understand what brought you to therapy and what you’d like to get out of it. I do a thorough evaluation to learn about your concerns, your strengths, and your goals. We’ll also talk about how long you’d like to be in therapy—whether you’re looking for short-term support or a longer journey of growth.

Together, we’ll create a plan tailored to your needs, focusing on what feels most important to you. From there, I keep track of your progress and check in regularly to make sure therapy is moving in the direction you want it to. My aim is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes.
