Great to meet you!

Hola, y bienvenida — I'm Sonia, a bilingual (English/Spanish) Licensed Professional Counselor with over four years of counseling experience. Whatever brought you here — anxiety, depression, anger, past trauma, substance use, a life transition, or behavioral challenges that feel out of hand — you don't have to work through it alone. I offer counseling in both English and Spanish, so you can do this work in whichever language feels most like you. Atiendo en español. I earned a Master of Science in School Counseling and a Master of Science in Curriculum & Instruction with a specialization in Special Education, both from Texas A&M International University, and my background across counseling and education has given me experience with adolescents and adults from many different backgrounds. I believe counseling is a collaborative journey — my goal is to help you understand yourself better, strengthen your confidence in your own judgment, and move toward greater peace, balance, and personal freedom.

My approach to therapy

My approach is person-centered, collaborative, and practical. Therapy works best when you feel comfortable being honest, understood, and free from judgment — and I believe you are the expert on your own life. My role is to help you understand yourself more clearly, work through what's hard, and create change that lasts. I take time to understand your experiences, strengths, and goals, and together we'll explore what may be keeping you stuck. I draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, trauma-focused CBT, motivational interviewing, emotion-focused and experiential approaches, and relapse prevention strategies — but there's no one-size-fits-all here. Our work will be tailored to you and where you are right now.

What you can expect from me

Starting counseling can feel a little uncomfortable at first, and that's completely normal. My goal is for your first session to feel less like an interview and more like a genuine conversation with someone who's there to understand you. We'll talk about what's been happening in your life, what's been difficult, and what you'd like to see change. I'll explain how counseling works, answer your questions, review confidentiality, and start identifying goals that actually matter to you. You don't have to have everything figured out or know exactly what to say — come as you are, and we'll start from there.
