Great to meet you!

Are you approaching a later-life transition — retirement, or grown children who suddenly act like they're the parent? Or navigating an overwhelming cancer diagnosis? I've been there, and now I'm here to help you redefine your new normal.

I'm Sonya T. Cruel, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 30 years in the field. I've provided well-rounded care across healthcare, school, and faith-based settings — and my own experience as a three-time breast cancer survivor has taught me the kind of compassion, resilience, and hope that only comes from facing real challenges.

My approach to therapy

My approach is person centered and grounded in respect, hope, and practical support. I focus on tools and strategies you can use right away to support your emotional and spiritual well being. Together, we will build a personalized toolkit that fits the season of life you are in right now, whether that means adjusting to illness, shifting family roles, or rediscovering meaning and purpose in the midst of change.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, you can expect a warm, calm space where your story is heard without judgment. We will talk about what is happening in your life, what feels most overwhelming, and what you want to be different. I will ask thoughtful questions, listen closely, and begin to identify a few small, realistic steps you can take between sessions. My goal is for you to leave feeling understood, supported, and a bit more hopeful.
