Great to meet you!

Hi! My name is Sophie. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor and, most importantly, a mom of three. My personal and professional experiences have shaped the way I understand how complicated life can be, especially when things don’t go the way we expected.

I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and started my career at Children’s Hospital Colorado, where I spent several years working with children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental differences and complex behavioral and emotional needs in an inpatient setting. I later trained in grief counseling through Judi’s House and spent the last six years of my career in the nonprofit sector supporting children and families through many different challenges, transitions, and seasons of life.

I work with clients around grief and loss, parenting, complex medical diagnoses, attachment, trauma, and the many transitions that come with life and family. As a mom of a medically complex child, I also understand personally how overwhelming, exhausting, and sometimes isolating it can feel to navigate medical and developmental challenges while still trying to be a parent, partner, and person.

My approach is primarily person-centered. I believe you know yourself and your life better than anyone, and my job is to meet you where you are. I also take a holistic approach and pull from different therapeutic approaches and modalities depending on what feels most helpful for you.

I believe life is messy. Sometimes we just need someone to sit with us in the mess. Sometimes we need help making sense of it. And sometimes, when we’re ready, we can start sorting through the mess together and figure out what comes next. I want therapy to be a place where you don’t have to have everything figured out before you walk through the door. You can come exactly as you are, and we’ll start there.

My approach to therapy

I believe therapy should be a place where you can come exactly as you are. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you walk through the door, and I’m not here to tell you how you should live your life or what you need to do.

I often think of therapy like taking a road trip. You are the driver, and I’m in the passenger seat. You get to decide where we’re going, how fast we want to go, and when we need to pull over. My job is to help you navigate the road. I might point out something you didn’t notice, help you make sense of where you’ve been, notice a pattern that keeps showing up, or help you find a different route when the road ahead feels unclear. But you are always the one driving.

My approach is primarily person-centered, which means I believe you are the expert on your own life. I take a holistic and integrative approach, drawing from different therapeutic frameworks and modalities depending on what you need and where you are in your journey. Sometimes therapy might mean sitting together in the hard stuff without trying to fix it. Sometimes it might mean slowing down and making sense of what’s happening. And sometimes it might mean working together to sort through the mess and figure out what comes next.

I don’t believe there is one right way to do therapy or one timeline for healing. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, understood, and supported while we work together to better understand yourself, your relationships, and the things that may be getting in the way of the life you want.

You’re driving. I’m just here to help you see the road a little more clearly.

What you can expect from me

The first session is simply about getting to know each other. I’ll ask a few questions to learn more about you, what brought you to therapy, and what you’re hoping for, but sometimes the first session is simply me listening and getting to know your experience.

There’s no need to have it all figured out. We’ll start where you are and go from there.
