I identify as a cisgender, straight, Black woman. My main interests in therapy come from my experiences as a Black woman in America, a divorced mother with a 2-13 y.o., in a second marriage, and as a widow. These experiences have been joyful and humbling; allowing me to hone my skills of empathy and resilience.
I became a psychologist 19 years ago and worked with undergrads and graduate students (17- 50+ y.o.) in a university counseling center.
My style is collaborative. I am experienced working with adults who had mood disorders through trauma issues. I consider the client to be the best judge of their experiences. Along with my knowledge as a therapist we work together to establish, understand, and work through your reasons for coming to therapy.
Clients can expect to feel heard and seen, get some new perspectives of their issues, and some things to work on/try between sessions. I hope that somewhere along the way we find something to make us smile or laugh. After all, laughter is the best medicine :-)
