Great to meet you!

My name is Steffan Weiner, and I am a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a Master of Science in Nursing, trained at California State University, Long Beach and the University of California, Davis. I work with adolescents, adults, and seniors, and I bring a broad and deeply inclusive approach to mental health care.

My primary clinical areas include anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADD/ADHD, and alcohol and substance use. I also work with clients navigating bipolar disorder, OCD, borderline personality, eating disorders, panic disorders, trauma, sleep difficulties, anger management, and learning disabilities. I offer neuropsychological testing for clients who need a clearer clinical picture of how their brain is functioning.

I am committed to providing affirming, knowledgeable care for LGBTQIA+ individuals and those navigating transgender experience and identity. I understand that these dimensions of a person's life are inseparable from their mental health — and I am here to provide care that honors that fully.

Whatever brings you to my practice, you will be met with respect, without judgment, and with the full breadth of my clinical training behind you.

My approach to therapy

My approach is integrative, trauma-informed, and tailored to the individual — shaped by the understanding that no two people experience the same condition in exactly the same way.

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a foundational framework for working with anxiety, depression, OCD, substance use, and mood-related challenges — helping clients identify and shift the thought patterns and behavioral cycles that are driving their distress. CBT is practical and skill-building by design, meaning clients develop tools they can use in real life, between sessions and beyond.

For clients carrying trauma and PTSD, I draw on Trauma Focused CBT — a specialized approach designed to address trauma's specific impact on thought, emotion, and behavior. This modality provides a structured, evidence-based pathway for processing difficult experiences in a way that is safe and paced appropriately for each person.

For clients with learning disabilities, I bring particular sensitivity to how cognitive differences can intersect with mental health — including how ADHD, processing differences, and learning challenges can affect self-esteem, relationships, and daily functioning. I work to ensure that care is accessible and adapted to each person's strengths and needs.

For LGBTQIA+ clients, I provide affirming care that acknowledges the real psychological impact of minority stress, identity navigation, and community dynamics — without requiring clients to educate me on their experience.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, I want to understand you — not just what's wrong, but who you are and what matters to you.

We'll talk about what's brought you in, how long things have felt difficult, and what your day-to-day life looks like. I'll ask about your mental health and medical history, and I'll pay attention to the full context of your life — including identity, relationships, and any physical health factors that may be relevant.

For clients coming in around substance use or addiction, I'll approach that conversation with the same openness and non-judgment I bring to everything else. There is no version of your situation that is too complicated or too far gone to work with.

By the end of our first session, we'll have a beginning plan: what we're focusing on, which approaches make the most sense, and what to expect going forward. Medication will be discussed openly and collaboratively where appropriate — and every step we take will be one you understand and agree to.

You came to the right place. Let's get started.
