I'm Stephanie Patrick-Calvillo, a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who believes mental health care should be accessible, compassionate, and tailored to each individual. Over the past 15+ years, I've worked with diverse populations—from adolescents facing their first mental health crisis to adults navigating complex psychiatric conditions, and seniors experiencing cognitive and emotional challenges.

My practice is grounded in the belief that effective treatment goes beyond symptom management. I take time to understand your unique story, your strengths, and the factors that shape your mental health. Whether you're dealing with a new diagnosis or have been managing symptoms for years, I meet you where you are with respect and without judgment.

I specialize in treating mood disorders, anxiety, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, substance use concerns, and behavioral issues related to dementia. I've completed advanced certification training because I'm committed to staying current with evidence-based treatments—ensuring you receive care that reflects the latest research.

Beyond clinical work, I'm passionate about mentoring the next generation of healthcare providers. I've mentored nursing and nurse practitioner students from multiple universities, which keeps me grounded and reminds me why this work matters.

When you work with me, you're getting someone who genuinely cares, who's seen mental health challenges from many angles, and who believes deeply in your capacity for healing and growth.

My approach to therapy

Three guiding principles shape everything I do: listening with genuine intention, building an authentic and lasting partnership, and caring for the whole person rather than symptoms alone. Exceptional psychiatric care emerges when provider and patient become true allies. You are never merely a name on a schedule—you are the very reason I do this work. You bring irreplaceable knowledge of your own inner world, and I bring rigorous clinical training and deep psychiatric expertise to our partnership.

Trauma-informed practice runs through everything I do. So many mental health struggles are deeply rooted in painful lived experiences, and I intentionally create a safe, unhurried space where you can share your story at your own pace, without any fear of judgment or dismissal.

Emotional health never exists in isolation. Stress, relationships, professional demands, physical health, sleep, and life circumstances all profoundly shape your overall wellbeing. With medication, I treat it as one meaningful tool within a broader wellness framework—never a foregone conclusion. I guide you through your options, stay candid about what medication can and cannot achieve, and remain fully transparent about the benefits and risks.

When collaborating with other providers, I actively pursue coordinated care—always with your permission—keeping everyone well aligned and informed. Clear, open communication between clinicians consistently leads to stronger, more integrated outcomes for you.

My style is warm yet direct. I offer honest observations, genuinely honor your lived experience, and provide sincere encouragement when the path feels especially difficult. Each meaningful step forward truly deserves recognition.

I approach each encounter with genuine cultural humility, respecting how your heritage, identity, and experiences shape your mental health journey and the care you truly deserve. I am here to walk beside you every single step of the way.

What you can expect from me

During your first appointment, you will meet a provider genuinely dedicated to your well-being and committed to guiding you toward lasting mental wellness.

I will ask what led you to seek medication management — whether you have been attending to your emotional health but need stronger support, your symptoms have grown too difficult to navigate without medication, or this is your very first time reaching out for care.

We will carefully examine your current concerns: your emotional state, anxious or depressive thought patterns, panic or persistent worry, mood fluctuations, energy levels, sleep quality, appetite shifts, concentration, and any thoughts of self-harm. I will assess how these challenges are influencing your daily world — including professional or academic performance, personal relationships, physical health, self-worth, and overall life satisfaction. We will also explore when these difficulties first surfaced and how they have progressed over time.

Every detail you share helps me build a clearer, more complete picture of you as a whole person. Your story is the most valuable clinical resource we have, and I will treat it with the care and attention it deserves.

Your psychiatric history carries genuine significance. I will review prior diagnoses, hospitalizations, and medications you have taken, including dosages and any adverse reactions. We will go through your medical background, active prescriptions, and allergies. Daily habits meaningfully shape emotional health, so we will discuss physical activity, nutrition, sleep routines, and use of caffeine, alcohol, or tobacco.

I will also explore traumatic experiences, ongoing stressors, relationship dynamics, career fulfillment, and your support network.

Following a thorough assessment, if medication is appropriate, I will explain your options in straightforward language — including side effects and how we will monitor your progress together.
