Great to meet you!

Hello! I'm Stephanie, a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 15 years of nursing experience and six years specializing in psychiatric care. I earned my PMHNP certification from Maryville University and hold a Master's degree in Nursing with a focus on Executive Healthcare from Chamberlain University.

I've had the privilege of working with diverse populations across multiple care settings—from residential treatment facilities and inpatient psychiatric hospitals to outpatient clinics and correctional healthcare systems. This breadth of experience has given me a deep understanding of mental health challenges across the lifespan and in various life circumstances.

I specialize in treating adults and adolescents dealing with serious mental illness, including mood disorders, depressive disorders, anxiety, psychotic disorders, ADHD, personality disorders, eating disorders, substance use disorders, and geriatric mental health concerns. I'm particularly passionate about serving individuals who have been underserved or face complex mental health challenges.

My recent advanced certifications in ADHD, personality disorders, and geriatric mental health reflect my commitment to staying current with evidence-based treatments. I've also served in senior leadership roles, which has enhanced my ability to coordinate comprehensive care and advocate for my patients' needs. I actively mentor nursing students and residents, which keeps me connected to the latest developments in psychiatric care and reminds me daily of the importance of compassionate, patient-centered treatment.

My approach emphasizes cultural sensitivity, trauma-informed care, and collaborative treatment planning. I integrate evidence-based psychopharmacology with supportive therapeutic techniques to address both symptoms and underlying factors. I'm passionate about reducing mental health stigma and improving access to quality psychiatric care.

My approach to therapy

My approach to psychiatric care is grounded in partnership, compassion, and evidence-based practice. Effective treatment starts with genuinely understanding your personal narrative, life circumstances, and goals. Because mental health is deeply individual, I cultivate a safe, nonjudgmental space where you feel valued, heard, and inspired to play an active role in your own recovery.

I take a holistic perspective—one that sees the complete person rather than symptoms in isolation. Your history, relationships, natural strengths, challenges, and aspirations all carry meaning and inform our work together. While medication management often serves as a central element of psychiatric care, I view it as one tool within a broader, individually crafted framework. Together we design personalized plans that may include medication when appropriate, lifestyle modifications, and coordination with your wider healthcare team.

My experience across diverse clinical settings has reinforced that no two individuals respond to care the same way. I walk you through every available option, discuss benefits and risks with complete openness, and ensure you feel confident and thoroughly informed about our direction. I am a strong advocate for collaborative decision-making—your preferences and insights remain at the core of everything we pursue together. Mental health does not operate in isolation. Systemic barriers, real-world conditions, and broader context all shape your experience, and I work to understand the full landscape of your life.

My goal is meaningful improvement in your quality of life—whether that arrives through relieving symptoms, strengthening relationships, reaching personal milestones, or reconnecting with your most authentic self. I am committed to being a reliable, supportive partner through every phase of your care. Your healing holds profound significance, and it is a responsibility I carry with the deepest respect and dedication each day.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is centered on getting to know you and building our working partnership. This initial appointment runs longer than standard follow-ups, ensuring adequate time for meaningful conversation and a thorough understanding of your needs. I will ask what brought you to seek support now — your current challenges, symptoms, and goals for care.

We will review your mental health history, including previous diagnoses, treatments, and medications you have tried and how they worked. I will also ask about your medical history, current medications, family mental health background, and important life factors including relationships, work, living situation, and support systems.

You control what you share. I understand that discussing mental health can feel vulnerable, especially with someone new. I will provide a safe, confidential space where you can open up at your own pace — with no judgment, only acceptance and compassion. Every detail you choose to share helps me understand you more fully and provide care that is genuinely responsive to your needs.

Together, we will develop a diagnostic understanding and explore initial treatment options. My breadth of clinical experience means I am well prepared to navigate even the most complex histories and tailor a path forward that is right for you. If medication seems helpful, we will discuss choices, potential benefits, possible side effects, and your preferences. I will also explain what ongoing care may involve, including appointment frequency and our collaborative approach.

Before we conclude, I will ensure your questions are answered and you feel confident about next steps. Bringing a current medication list, past records if available, and any questions is always helpful. My goal is for you to leave feeling validated, hopeful, and informed. Your courage in taking this first step reflects tremendous strength, and I am fully committed to you from day one.
