Great to meet you!

I'm a very well educated and deeply experienced therapist. My undergrad degree is from Columbia U, and my Ph.D. in clinical psychology is from NYU. I'm Board Certified in Clinical Psychology, and I also have a Postdoctoral Diploma in Psychotherapy. I was the director of a large and well regarded psychology internship program, and I have taught and supervised doctoral and postdoctoral psychology students at two major universities. I've been in practice for about 40 years. All of my professional experiences, along with my personal values, have contributed to my understanding that effective therapy not only requires a knowledge of technique, but also a capacity to build an emotionally safe setting for my clients, one in which we will be able to work together in addressing your challenges and building on your assets.

My approach to therapy

In an emotionally safe setting, I strive to help clients understand and overcome obstacles arising from anxiety, depression, ADHD, neurodivergence, relationship issues, and family or work stress. I’m well trained in both psychodynamic and CBT approaches, though I also understand that these techniques work best when used in the context of a warm, supportive relationship.

What you can expect from me

For me, as a therapist, the first session is mainly about getting to know you, and helping you to feel a sense of emotional safety in the therapy. This helps us to build not only my professional understanding of you, but also your comfort and willingness to address what may be painful issues. Equally important, I want every client to leave the first session with a sense of hope, especially about their capacity to deal with challenging problems.
