Great to meet you!

I'm Stephen W. Wright, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Supervisor (LCSW-S) and Board Approved Supervisor with more than 30 years of experience helping people navigate some of life's most difficult challenges. I founded Wright Way Counseling & Supervision in Keller, Texas, where I provide individual, group, and family therapy, as well as behavioral health and substance use assessments.

Over three decades in this field, I've had the privilege of working with people across all stages of life — from young adults finding their footing to older adults facing the unique challenges that come with aging. That breadth of experience means I've likely worked with someone who has faced something similar to what you're going through, and I bring that depth of understanding into every session.

My approach to therapy

My areas of specialized focus include addiction and substance use, trauma and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, a condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a deeply distressing event), geriatric behavioral health (supporting the emotional and mental wellness of older adults), and psychosocial oncology (providing mental health support for individuals and families navigating a cancer diagnosis). I also specialize in integrated care, meaning I understand how mental and physical health are deeply connected and work to address both in my approach.

I'm formally trained in several evidence-based models — meaning approaches that have been studied and proven effective — including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT, which helps people recover from trauma by working through unhelpful thoughts connected to the experience), Prolonged Exposure (PE, a therapy that helps people gradually and safely face trauma-related memories so they lose their grip over time), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (an approach specifically designed for those who have experienced trauma), Motivational Interviewing (a collaborative method that helps people find their own inner motivation and commitment to change), and Seeking Safety (a model that addresses trauma and substance use at the same time).

I'm also a passionate educator and mentor — I've taught in graduate social work and counseling programs across the country and am a Certified National Trainer in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention through the Crisis Prevention Institute. That commitment to learning doesn't stay in the classroom. It shapes the way I show up for every client, every session.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is about getting to know each other — and I mean that in the fullest sense. Before we talk about goals or treatment plans, I want to understand you as a person. What's going on in your life right now? What has led you to this moment? What have you already tried, and what hasn't worked? These aren't just intake questions — they're the foundation of everything we'll build together.

I also take time in that first session to understand your history, because the challenges people face today are rarely disconnected from what came before. Whether that's past trauma, patterns in relationships, experiences with addiction, a health diagnosis, or something else entirely — context matters, and I listen carefully to all of it.

You don't need to have everything figured out before you walk in. Many people come to their first session feeling uncertain, overwhelmed, or unsure of where to even begin. That's completely normal, and it's exactly what I'm here for. My job in that first meeting is to help you feel heard, to start making sense of what you're carrying, and to give you a clear picture of how we might work together going forward.
