Great to meet you!

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 25 years of experience working with young adults, adults, and seniors. I specialize in trauma-informed care and supports clients navigating addiction, grief, anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress, autism, chronic physical conditions, relationship concerns, PTSD, and pornography addiction.

I earned his master’s degree from Arizona State University and integrates a wide range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches into his work. My modalities include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness practices, Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), grief counseling, Reality Therapy (RT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and EMDR. This integrative approach allows him to tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs, helping them develop effective coping skills, new perspectives, and greater emotional resilience.

Steve is known for his empathetic and grounded presence. He prioritizes creating a safe, collaborative environment where individuals, couples, and families feel supported as they heal, grow, and move forward with renewed confidence.

Outside of his clinical work, I enjoy camping, hiking, playing the piano, and searching for Native American rock art.

If you’re ready to develop new coping skills, process difficult experiences, and move forward with greater confidence, I am here to support you every step of the way.

My approach to therapy

Healing from trauma and life’s challenges takes courage — and the right support can make all the difference. Starting therapy can feel uncomfortable, uncertain, or even intimidating. Many people worry they will be judged, pressured to talk about painful experiences before they are ready, or expected to have all the answers. My goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where you can begin the process of healing at your own pace.

As a therapist, I believe that symptoms such as anxiety, depression, anger, relationship conflict, addiction, grief, or trauma often serve as signals that something deeper needs attention. Rather than focusing only on the symptom, we will work to understand what is driving it. This is a central principle of Two-by-Four Therapy—looking beneath the surface to identify the underlying beliefs, experiences, wounds, and patterns that may be contributing to current struggles.

As I often tell clients, therapy is not about fixing what is broken. It is about understanding what happened, identifying what is getting in the way, and building the tools needed to move forward. Sometimes all it takes is a small shift—a "two-by-four" moment of clarity—to begin creating meaningful change.

What you can expect from me

During our first session, we will spend time getting to know each other. I want to understand what brings you to therapy, what challenges you are facing, and what you hope will be different in your life moving forward. You do not need to have your story perfectly organized. Many clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, confused, stuck, or unsure where to begin. Together, we will start identifying the issues that are causing the most pain or disruption in your life.

You can expect me to ask questions about your personal history, relationships, family experiences, current stressors, strengths, and support systems. We will discuss what has worked for you in the past, what has not worked, and what goals you would like to accomplish through therapy. This conversation helps us develop a treatment plan that is individualized to your specific needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.

My style is collaborative, direct, and compassionate. I believe therapy works best when we function as a team. I am not here to tell you what to do or judge your choices. Instead, I help clients gain insight, develop practical tools, and build confidence in their ability to create meaningful change. At times I may challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, avoidance behaviors, or beliefs that keep you stuck, but this is always done with respect and a focus on helping you move toward your goals.

Most importantly, you can expect to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, addiction, grief, life transitions, or simply feeling stuck, therapy is a place where you do not have to carry those burdens alone. My hope is that you leave the first session feeling heard, understood, and more hopeful about the possibility of change.
