Great to meet you!

Avery Morrison, LPC, NCC is the Director of Anchor Counseling, PLLC. She earned her Master’s degree from the University of Mississippi in 2008 and is a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor. Avery is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Avery has extensive experience providing individual, family, and group counseling across a variety of mental health settings, including community mental health, inpatient crisis care, and elementary school environments. After relocating to the Hampton Roads area with her family in 2013, she served for several years as a military counselor with Virginia Beach Public Schools before joining the Center for Advanced Psychological Services in 2017.

In 2018, Avery founded Anchor Counseling, PLLC, where she has remained committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based therapeutic services to individuals and families throughout the Hampton Roads community.

My style is supportive, down-to-earth, and engaged. I strive to create a counseling experience that feels both comfortable and effective, where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to grow. I believe therapy works best when it is built on trust, honesty, and a strong therapeutic relationship.

As someone who has worked extensively with military members and families, I understand the unique stressors that can come with constant change, high responsibility, and carrying more than others often see.

My approach to therapy

My approach to counseling is relaxed, compassionate, and collaborative. I believe healing happens in spaces where people feel emotionally safe enough to be honest. Therapy with me is professional and goal-oriented, but it is also warm, conversational, and genuine. Some clients come in knowing exactly what they want to work on. Others only know that they feel overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck, or exhausted. Both are okay. We start where you are and work together to create meaningful progress.

What you can expect from me

At Anchor Counseling, therapy is designed to feel calm, clear, and supportive. A place to feel safe, not judged. Clients often want a space where they can stop performing, stop holding everything in, and finally say what is really going on.

The first session is what I call the intake session. I ask a lot of questions, discuss what brought you to treatment, your history, and what you would like to achieve from treatment.

In our work together, you can expect:

  • a welcoming and confidential space
  • practical support with real-life stressors
  • thoughtful feedback and insight
  • help identifying patterns that keep you stuck
  • strategies to build healthier coping and stronger boundaries
  • therapy that honors both your pain and your progress

**TO HELP ENSURE SCHEDULING WORKS SMOOTHLY, PLEASE BEGIN BY SCHEDULING A CONSULTATION SO WE CAN THEN SET UP YOUR INTAKE APPOINTMENT. MORE TIMES ARE AVAILABLE DURING THE DAY M-F
