Great to meet you!

You may be the person everyone relies on, or a parent wondering how best to help your child. You do not have to figure it out alone. I am Susanna W. Smith, a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a Master of Science in Psychology, Mental Health Counseling from St. Thomas University. Drawing on my work in schools and community mental health, I support children, teens, and adults facing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, ADHD, and life changes. I offer a space where you can be yourself, feel heard, and find a way forward.

My approach to therapy

My approach is warm, honest, and collaborative. I will take time to understand what life feels like for you, what you have already tried, and what you hope will change. Then we will build on your strengths and find practical ways forward. Depending on your needs, I may draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and other approaches. With children, I use age-appropriate activities and involve caregivers when helpful.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is about you: what you are experiencing, what matters most to you, and what you want life to look like as things improve. You can come as you are, even if you are unsure where to begin. I will guide the conversation while giving you room to share at your own pace.

We will talk about the challenges that brought you to therapy, the strengths that have helped you through difficult times, and the changes you would like to make. I will listen carefully, ask questions that help us understand the bigger picture, and work with you to identify a direction that fits your needs. You will also have space to ask questions and tell me what feels helpful—or what does not.

My goal is that you leave our first session feeling heard, respected, and clearer about your next step. This is your work, and you will have an active voice in how we move forward together.
