Great to meet you!

Hi! My name is Suzette. I’m a licensed professional counselor and I want to help you grow into whoever you want to be. I’m from Laredo, TX but I was born in Denville, NJ and still have family there! I love to visit when I get the chance. I lived in San Antonio for 8 years and graduated with a BA in Psychology and minor in sociology. I continued my education at UTSA with a MS in Clinical mental health counseling. I moved to Laredo during COVID to focus on healing and raising my son. I began full time counseling in 2021 where I trained in trauma focused therapy specializing in children and adolescents. I’ve since worked with children, teens, young adults, and adults. My experience centers around children with trauma and complex trauma, but I also love working with parents to provide that emotional support needed to get through these difficult situations. I enjoy working with adults as well who have a desire and motivation to examine their lives and work towards fulfillment and joy.

My approach to therapy

Research shows that the most important factor in determining whether therapy is effective is the therapeutic alliance between the counselor and the client. My approach therefore reflects that and prioritizes above all the trust and confidence you instill in me. Yes, I use certain modalities and techniques to help guide our work, like CBT, TF-CBT for children, and person-centered interventions. But our work in therapy will be guided by your needs and your best interests.

What you can expect from me

During our first session, this is really the time to get a feel for me, my personality, and whether we will mesh well. First things first - we will review your rights as a client and what to expect in therapy. Then, I like to discuss what brings you here, what you are experiencing, and what you would like to achieve in our work together. I will also administer some necessary assessments to determine criteria that is needed for insurance purposes and to guide our work effectively. We will discuss expectations and a schedule, frequency, and session times.
