Great to meet you!

I believe good mental health care begins with feeling heard. I’m Dr. Sylvia May, a dual-certified Psychiatric Mental Health and Family Nurse Practitioner with a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. I provide thoughtful, individualized care for adults navigating anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, life changes, and women’s mental health needs.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in understanding the full picture of your health and your life. With experience in both psychiatric and primary care, I consider how emotional well-being, physical health, medications, lifestyle, and life circumstances may intersect. Together, we will develop a treatment plan that reflects your concerns, priorities, and goals - not simply your diagnosis.

My approach to therapy

My approach to care begins with listening. I want to understand not only what you are experiencing, but how it is affecting your daily life, relationships, sleep, and overall well-being. I believe patients deserve time to tell their story without feeling rushed or reduced to a diagnosis.

Care is collaborative and individualized. We will discuss your concerns, treatment options, and goals together so you understand the reasoning behind recommendations and feel comfortable participating in decisions about your care. When medication is appropriate, I carefully consider potential benefits, risks, alternatives, and your overall health.

My goal is to help you feel supported, informed, and actively involved in your care while working toward meaningful and sustainable improvement in your quality of life.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is a chance for me to get to know you -not just your symptoms. We will talk about what brought you to care, what has been affecting your day-to-day life, your mental and physical health history, medications, sleep, relationships, stressors, and what you hope will improve.

You can expect a thoughtful conversation with plenty of time to share your concerns and ask questions. There is no pressure to tell your story perfectly or have everything figured out before you arrive.

By the end of our visit, we will discuss what I’m hearing, possible next steps, and treatment options that may be appropriate. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard, informed, and clear about the plan moving forward.
