Great to meet you!

My name is Tahaji Smith (she/her), and I decided to make a huge career change 5 years ago. I am currently a Master of Social Work graduate, and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 20+ years of public service experience. Previously, I worked for 17 years as an Emergency Telecommunicator Operator for one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the nation, but I decided to pursue a career doing what I love...helping others become the best version of themselves.

A bit about my approach to therapy

My therapy communication style is collaborative, empathetic, and client-centered. I strive to create a safe and supportive space where clients feel heard and validated. I use active listening, open-ended questions, and reflective responses to encourage self-exploration and insight. My approach balances warmth with professionalism, adapting my communication style to each client’s needs—whether they benefit from a more structured dialogue or a free-flowing, exploratory conversation. I trust that clients are the experts in their own lives and help them uncover their strengths, values, and solutions through active listening, reflection, and unconditional positive regard. My role is to facilitate self-discovery and growth rather than impose advice or direction.

What you can expect from our first session

Each client is unique and can experience various thoughts and feelings after leaving a session. However, my goal is to ultimately help each client leave their session with a sense of clarity, direction, and progress.
