Great to meet you!

Hello,

I am Dr. Tameka White, a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with more than a decade of experience caring for adults with complex medical and mental health conditions.

Many of my clients have spent years putting everyone else first before finally seeking help for themselves. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, emotional inheritance, and or caregiver role strain caring for individuals affected by HIV, I strive to provide a space where you feel heard, respected, and never judged.

My background includes critical care and HIV management, allowing me to understand the close relationship between physical health and emotional well-being.

I have a special interest in caring for men's health, professionals, caregivers, and adults from diverse communities, including Black, Caribbean, Asian, and other diaspora communities.

My approach to therapy

I believe that good psychiatric care starts with listening and not simply assigning a label. Each of us has a unique story, and I take time to understand how your mental health connects to your physical health, history, and lived experiences. My approach is collaborative, evidence-based, and practical. I combine thoughtful medication management with supportive psychotherapy and psycho-education and skills drawn from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and trauma-informed care, honoring the work you have already done and moving at a pace that respects your comfort level.

My practice specializes in complex, often overlapping presentations: Adult ADHD, Borderline Personality Traits, Bipolar Disorders, Survivor Burden, Resilience attached to Executive Strain, and I also provide complete care for persons requiring discrete HIV and psychiatry care.

My approach is taken to cases that do not fit neatly into one diagnostic box. Whether it's ADHD tangled with mood instability or the quiet weights of survivor guilt, I take time to understand how these pieces interact before recommending a path forward.

I look forward to meeting you, and I welcome you to my practice!

Tameka

What you can expect from me

Your first session is about moving at your pace and readiness, understanding that lived experiences, trauma, and mental health failings can influence the context in which you seek care. We will look not just at symptoms but at the medical, personal, and situational context.

The intake is guided by your pace and direction, favoring more of a narrative than a linear approach to develop conversations and insight into your needs. For complex cases, attention to how your physical health conditions may be interacting with your mental health. For cases such as PTSD, ADHD, mood, and Caregiver Strain, I take extra time to untangle what is the driver for your anxiety or depressive moods. At the end of each session, we leave with a clear initial plan, whether the next steps are evaluation, laboratory tests, or treatment direction; through shared understanding, you will have clarity on next steps.
