Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Tanika Montgomery, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and the owner of Crowned Therapy. I believe therapy should be a space where you feel heard, respected, and supported while also being encouraged to grow. My approach is warm, direct, and collaborative, and I work with clients to better understand the patterns, relationships, and experiences that may be affecting their emotional well-being.

I work with individuals, couples, families, and adolescents experiencing challenges such as anxiety, relationship concerns, life transitions, family conflict, stress, and difficulties navigating major changes. My systemic perspective allows me to look beyond the immediate concern and consider how relationships, family dynamics, environment, and life experiences may be influencing what you're experiencing today.

I’m also pursuing doctoral-level education in Counselor Education and Supervision, which reflects my commitment to continued learning and providing thoughtful, intentional care. Whether you are working through a difficult season, trying to strengthen your relationships, or simply ready to better understand yourself, therapy can be a place to begin creating meaningful change.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that meaningful change begins with feeling understood and supported. I take a systemic approach, exploring how relationships, family dynamics, life experiences, and the environments we navigate can influence our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

In sessions, I work alongside clients to identify patterns that may be keeping them stuck, develop healthier ways of coping and communicating, and build practical strategies for moving forward. I incorporate evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral and solution-focused interventions while tailoring treatment to each client’s individual needs, goals, and experiences.

I believe therapy should provide both a safe space to process and a space that encourages growth. My goal is not simply to help you get through what you're experiencing, but to help you develop greater self-awareness, confidence, healthier relationships, and the tools to create meaningful change in your life.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin understanding what brought you to therapy. I’ll create a welcoming, judgment-free space where you can share what you’re comfortable discussing at your own pace. We’ll talk about your current concerns, your history, relationships, and the goals you have for therapy.

I’ll also explain what you can expect from our work together, answer any questions you may have, and begin identifying areas that may be helpful to focus on moving forward. You don’t have to have everything figured out before you come to therapy. We’ll work together to make sense of what you’re experiencing and develop a plan that feels realistic and meaningful to you.

My goal is for you to leave your first session feeling heard, understood, and with a clearer sense of where we can begin.
