Great to meet you!

Dr. Tanya Brandy, Psy. D., MSW, LCSW, SAP

Welcome. I am Dr. Tanya Brandy, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), educator, and behavioral health professional with more than 15 years of experience serving individuals, families, and communities. I hold a Doctor of Biblical Psychology (Psy.D.), and a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree.

I provide a supportive, compassionate, and nonjudgmental environment where clients can safely explore life's challenges and work toward meaningful change. I believe every person possesses strengths that can be used to overcome obstacles, heal from difficult experiences, and create a more fulfilling life.

My clinical experience includes mental health counseling, substance use treatment, child welfare services, medical social work, and behavioral health services in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I have worked with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, substance use disorders, grief, relationship concerns, life transitions, self-esteem challenges, and other personal concerns.

My counseling approach is client-centered, strengths-based, and holistic, recognizing the connection between emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. I utilize evidence-based interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution-Focused Therapy, relapse prevention strategies, mindfulness techniques, and trauma-informed care.

I have extensive experience working with individuals in recovery and those seeking support for substance use concerns.

In addition to clinical practice, I serve as a Professor in the School of Social Work at Grambling State University, where I help prepare future social workers for ethical and effective professional practice.

My goal is to help clients move from a place of struggle and uncertainty toward healing, resilience, and empowerment.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is client-centered, strengths-based, and holistic. I believe that every individual has unique strengths and the capacity for growth, healing, and positive change. My role is to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered as they work toward their personal goals.

I tailor therapy to each client's specific needs and utilize evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution-Focused Therapy, mindfulness-based techniques, and trauma-informed care. I work collaboratively with clients to identify patterns that may be contributing to their challenges, develop healthy coping skills, build resilience, and create practical strategies for lasting change.

My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, stress management, substance use and recovery, trauma, anger management, life transitions, self-esteem, relationship concerns, parenting support, and personal growth. I have experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and understand that each person's journey is unique.

I view therapy as a collaborative partnership. Together, we will identify your goals, build upon your strengths, and develop the tools needed to improve emotional well-being, enhance coping skills, strengthen relationships, and increase overall quality of life. My goal is to help clients feel empowered, supported, and confident as they navigate life's challenges and move toward meaningful growth and healing.

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where they feel safe discussing their concerns, challenges, and goals. During the first session, I focus on getting to know you as a whole person—not just the problem that brought you to therapy. We will discuss your current concerns, personal history, strengths, support systems, and what you hope to gain from counseling.

My goal is to create a collaborative therapeutic relationship built on trust, respect, and open communication. Together, we will identify your immediate needs and begin establishing realistic and meaningful goals for treatment. Depending on your situation, these goals may include reducing symptoms of anxiety or depression, improving coping skills, strengthening relationships, managing stress, supporting recovery from substance use, increasing self-confidence, processing trauma, or navigating life transitions.

Clients often leave the first session with a better understanding of their concerns, increased hope for positive change, and a clear plan for moving forward. My approach is strengths-based, client-centered, and holistic, helping clients build on their existing strengths while developing practical tools to support healing, growth, and long-term well-being!
