Great to meet you!

Formalities first! I am Tanya Gray-Dorsett a Licensed Marriage, Child and Family Therapist with 10 years of post graduate experience. I have enjoyed providing therapeutic services to individuals needing mental health support, whether it be life-stressor related problems or more intense mental health concerns in non-profits and community mental health. These can include job stress, problems with life transitions, Anxiety and Anxiety disorders, depression, or childhood trauma.

A bit about my approach to therapy

It is not so important to me that I provide a label of a diagnosis but, yet that I elicit info that will treat the situation or condition the client before me is presenting with. I conduct thorough assessments using curiosity as my guide. A lot of my approach is from the (CBT) and (SFBT) Models. With CBT, I help clients identify thoughts that defy reality and elicit negative emotions to decrease maladaptive behavior. My SFBT work focuses on finding the solution to mental & emotional distress.

What you can expect from our first session

I am committed to a non-judgmental approach that appreciates all qualities an individual brings into therapy with them, including their cultural identity and experiences. I work to not retraumatize those who have been traumatized by life. I hold a safe space for individuals to process their thoughts and feelings, providing empathy and validation. My goal is for clients to discharge from our work together empowered to live healthy independent lives.
