Great to meet you!

Hello, my name is Dr. Tanya Samuels, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Master’s-Level Certified Addiction Professional (MCAP) with more than eight years of experience in mental health and substance abuse counseling. I earned my Doctorate in Healthcare Administration from Oklahoma State University, which has strengthened my understanding of healthcare leadership, behavioral health systems, and the importance of accessible, quality care.

My clinical experience includes working with adults and teens experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, relationship concerns, and eating disorders. I am certified in trauma, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), eating disorder treatment, and substance abuse counseling. I also have experience providing family and couples counseling and supporting clients as they navigate difficult life transitions, emotional challenges, and relationship concerns.

My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and individualized. I believe effective therapy begins with creating a safe, judgment-free environment where you feel heard and understood. Together, we can identify the challenges affecting your well-being, develop practical coping strategies, strengthen relationships, and work toward meaningful and sustainable change. My goal is to help you feel empowered, develop greater resilience, and build a healthier and more fulfilling life.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is compassionate, collaborative, and individualized. I believe that every client has a unique story, and effective treatment begins with creating a safe, respectful, and judgment-free environment where you feel comfortable being open and understood. I work collaboratively with clients to identify their concerns, understand the patterns that may be affecting their emotional and behavioral well-being, and develop practical strategies for creating meaningful change.

My clinical areas of focus include anxiety, depression, trauma, substance abuse, eating disorders, relationship concerns, and life transitions. I also provide family and couples counseling and work with adults and teens experiencing challenging behavioral health concerns. I have specialized training and certifications in Trauma, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eating Disorder treatment, and Substance Abuse counseling.

I incorporate evidence-informed approaches, including CBT, DBT, trauma-informed interventions, emotional regulation, mindfulness, and strengths-based techniques, based on each client's individual needs and goals. My goal is not simply to reduce symptoms, but to help clients develop healthier coping skills, improve relationships, build self-awareness, and create sustainable changes that support long-term emotional wellness and recovery.

What you can expect from me

I strive to create a therapeutic environment that is safe, welcoming, compassionate, and free from judgment. I want clients to feel comfortable being honest about their experiences while knowing they will be treated with dignity, respect, and understanding. I believe therapy is a collaborative process, and I work with each client to establish goals that are realistic, meaningful, and aligned with their individual needs and values.

Together, we may focus on reducing anxiety and depression, developing healthier coping and emotional regulation skills, processing trauma, addressing substance use, improving self-esteem, strengthening relationships, establishing healthy boundaries, and navigating significant life transitions. For clients experiencing eating disorders or other behavioral health concerns, treatment may also focus on developing healthier patterns and improving overall functioning.

My goal is to help clients move beyond simply managing symptoms and develop skills they can use in their everyday lives. Outcomes may include improved emotional regulation, greater self-awareness, healthier relationships, increased confidence, improved decision-making, stronger coping skills, and greater ability to manage life’s challenges. Ultimately, I want clients to leave therapy feeling empowered, hopeful, and better equipped to create lasting, meaningful change.
