Great to meet you!

Welcome!

Hello and thank you for stopping by my page here on Headway. My name is Tara and I applaud your bravery for making it this far! It can feel intimidating and scary to choose a therapist and to begin therapy.

My Approach / Outlook

I want to let you know that, to me, you are a whole person - not an ill person. I recognize that you bring strengths, expertise, and wisdom to therapy sessions. I will not talk down to you, tell you what you "should" do, or judge you for your past or future choices, I will connect with you authentically and be 100% present in our time together.

Currently, I work with adults and older adults of alllllll identities and shapes via telehealth. Together, we will find what therapy approach(es) make sense to your mind and heart. Degrees and certifications do little good, if your therapy is not sensible and relatable for you.

My Background and Experience

In my 40s, I graduated with my Bachelor's degree (Sociology major) from ECSU (2016), then completed my Master's in Social Work degree from Simmons University (2018). Yes, it's true, we middle-aged folks retain good minds (with life experience to boot)!

I am certified in dialectical behavioral therapy and am fully trained in EMDR (certification pending). I also have 5 years' experience with cognitive behavioral therapy, internal family systems therapy, feminist therapy, compassion-focused therapy, and strengths-based therapy.

My approach to therapy

I come to sessions warmly and gently. Our therapy is a place where you can feel safe to be yourself, to speak your truth, and to explore your possibilities. I always bear in mind that it's an honor for me to hear your story, and I act accordingly.

Our first session is an assessment where I ask you about your current challenges (also called symptoms). Second and subsequent sessions are generally much less rigid that the assessment. Together, we will decide on how often you come for therapy, what days and times work best for you, etc.

What you can expect from me

You can expect to feel heard and supported, to gain new skills/strategies that are practical and useful, and to increase your natural ability to think more clearly about your choices.
