Great to meet you!

Hello, I'm Tara Wells, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care to individuals across the lifespan. My goal is to create a welcoming, judgment-free environment where patients feel heard, respected, and empowered to take an active role in their health and well-being.

With extensive experience in primary care, psychiatry, addiction medicine, and chronic disease management, I believe in treating the whole person rather than just the diagnosis. I work collaboratively with each patient to develop individualized treatment plans that address their unique medical, emotional, and lifestyle needs.

My areas of clinical interest include anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, substance use disorders and medication-assisted treatment (MAT), weight management, hormone optimization, and preventive health. I also provide comprehensive evaluations, medication management, and supportive counseling while emphasizing patient education and shared decision-making.

I am currently working on my Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Maryville University and maintain board certification as both a Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I am committed to staying current with the latest clinical research and treatment guidelines to ensure my patients receive high-quality, evidence-based care.

Whether you're seeking support for your mental health, managing a chronic medical condition, or working toward your wellness goals, I look forward to partnering with you on your journey to better health.

My approach to therapy

I believe the best healthcare begins with a trusting, collaborative relationship. My approach is compassionate, nonjudgmental, and patient-centered. I take the time to understand each person's unique experiences, concerns, and goals so we can develop a treatment plan that fits their individual needs rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

I provide evidence-based care while considering the whole person—physical health, mental health, lifestyle, relationships, and overall well-being. I emphasize education and shared decision-making, ensuring my patients understand their treatment options and feel empowered to actively participate in their care.

I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, trauma-related disorders, and substance use disorders, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder. I also have experience managing co-occurring mental and medical conditions, recognizing the important connection between physical and emotional health.

My treatment approach may include medication management, supportive psychotherapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-based strategies, lifestyle modifications, and coordination with therapists and other healthcare providers when appropriate. Whether you're navigating a new diagnosis, managing a chronic condition, or simply looking to improve your quality of life, my goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care in a safe and supportive environment where you feel heard, respected, and understood.

I welcome adults from diverse backgrounds and strive to create an inclusive space where every patient can work toward improved mental health, resilience, and lasting wellness.

What you can expect from me

During your first appointment, my priority is getting to know you, not just your symptoms, but your story. I strive to create a welcoming, respectful, and judgment-free environment where you can feel comfortable sharing your concerns at your own pace.

We'll discuss your current symptoms, medical and mental health history, medications, lifestyle, relationships, and the goals that brought you to treatment. I'll ask questions to better understand your experiences and identify factors that may be affecting your overall well-being. If appropriate, we'll also review any previous treatments and what's worked or hasn't worked for you in the past.

Together, we'll develop an individualized treatment plan that aligns with your goals. This may include medication recommendations, therapy referrals or supportive counseling, lifestyle strategies, or additional evaluations when needed. I believe in shared decision-making, so you'll have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss your preferences, and fully understand your treatment options before any decisions are made.

By the end of your first session, you can expect to have a clearer understanding of your diagnosis (when appropriate), a personalized treatment plan, and a roadmap for the next steps in your care. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard, supported, and hopeful, knowing you have a partner committed to helping you achieve lasting improvements in your mental health and overall quality of life.
