Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Tariq Mehmood, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and a foreign-trained physician with over 10 years of experience in both medical and mental health care. My background as a physician and psychiatric provider helps me approach care in a holistic, patient-centered way—treating both the mind and body together.

I specialize in supporting adults dealing with:

  • Depression and anxiety
  • PTSD and trauma-related conditions
  • Bipolar disorder and mood changes
  • Psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia
  • Stress and life transitions Medication management

I earned my Master of Science in Nursing from Purdue Global University (GPA 3.99) and passed my ANCC PMHNP certification on the first attempt. I’m licensed in Texas as an APRN and hold an active DEA license. I hold an MBBS degree from Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC), Pakistan, where I completed my medical training.

I speak English, Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi, and I strive to provide culturally sensitive care to patients from diverse backgrounds.

My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and evidence-based. I aim to create a safe, respectful space where you feel understood and empowered. Whether you're starting therapy for the first time or looking for a provider who understands your cultural and personal needs, I’m here to support your mental health journey.

“Let’s work together toward healing and hope.

My prescribing focuses on non-controlled psychiatric medications. I do not prescribe benzodiazepines, stimulants, or other controlled substances.”

My approach to therapy

As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I take a holistic, collaborative, and culturally sensitive approach to mental health care. I believe that each individual’s journey is unique, and effective treatment begins with listening without judgment, building trust, and working together to create a treatment plan that fits the patient’s needs, preferences, and values.

I combine evidence-based psychiatric care with compassion, integrating both psychopharmacology and supportive therapy. My clinical background as a foreign-trained physician allows me to approach psychiatric symptoms with a deeper understanding of how physical and mental health intersect. This helps me recognize when underlying medical issues may be contributing to emotional or behavioral symptoms.

In my sessions, I focus on:

  • Accurate diagnosis and medication management when appropriate
  • Psychoeducation, so clients understand their condition and treatment options
  • Collaborative goal-setting, empowering clients to take an active role in their healing
  • Trauma-informed and culturally aware care, especially for immigrants and underserved populations

My communication style is empathetic, clear, and respectful. I value honest dialogue and always invite questions or concerns about medications, diagnoses, or side effects. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, mood instability, trauma, or complex psychiatric concerns, I aim to provide safe, personalized, and effective care that helps you regain stability and move forward in life.

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect a supportive, nonjudgmental, and collaborative environment where they feel heard, respected, and understood. My goal is to help each individual gain clarity about their mental health, better understand their symptoms, and feel empowered to take actionable steps toward emotional stability and well-being.

During our sessions, we’ll work together to:

  • Develop a clear understanding of your diagnosis (if applicable)
  • Identify underlying stressors or triggers
  • Explore treatment options, including medication and lifestyle strategies
  • Set realistic, measurable goals tailored to your needs and values
  • Build insight, coping skills, and emotional resilience

Whether you're managing anxiety, depression, trauma, or complex psychiatric conditions, you can expect compassionate care, clear communication, and evidence-based treatment every step of the way.

I strive to create a safe space where you can express yourself freely, ask questions without hesitation, and feel supported throughout your mental health journey.
