Great to meet you!

Navigating anxiety, depression, and life’s transitions can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to manage everything on your own. Whether you’re feeling stuck, struggling with difficult emotions, or hoping to better understand yourself, therapy can offer a supportive space to explore your experiences and work toward meaningful change.

Hi, my name is Taryn McCarthy, and I’m a fully licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with experience in the mental health field dating back to 2020. I’m passionate about supporting teens and adults as they navigate life’s challenges and work toward greater emotional well-being. I believe therapy is a collaborative process that begins with understanding your unique experiences, strengths, and goals. Together, we can explore patterns that may be contributing to your struggles, develop tools to manage difficult emotions, and work toward building greater self-confidence and resilience. My approach emphasizes meeting you where you are and working at a pace that feels comfortable for you. My goal is to help you create meaningful, lasting change and feel more connected to the life you want to live.

My approach to therapy

My approach is centered on helping clients feel empowered, supported, and comfortable throughout treatment. Over the past six years, I have gained experience working with children, teens, and adults, using evidence-based approaches to help clients navigate challenges and work toward meaningful growth. I offer warmth, validation, and a nonjudgmental space while also providing gentle challenges when they can support personal growth.

I regularly draw from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. In sessions, I incorporate DBT skills to support emotional regulation and distress tolerance, CBT techniques to identify and reframe unhelpful thought patterns, ACT strategies to build acceptance and take action aligned with personal values, and solution-focused techniques to identify strengths, explore solutions, and work toward achievable goals. I tailor these approaches to each client’s unique needs, experiences, and goals while maintaining a collaborative and goal-oriented focus throughout treatment. My goal is to help clients develop practical coping skills, build on their existing strengths, and create meaningful, lasting change.

What you can expect from me

Your first session with me is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin building a therapeutic relationship. The initial intake typically lasts 60 minutes and is conducted via telehealth, just like our future sessions. During this time, we’ll discuss what brings you to therapy, your personal history, current concerns, and what you hope to gain from the process. The assessment will include questions to help me better understand your experiences and needs, but it will also be conversational, allowing you to share in a way that feels natural and comfortable. Together, we’ll begin identifying treatment goals and discussing how we can work toward meaningful growth and improved well-being. I understand that starting therapy can feel intimidating, so I strive to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can share at your own pace. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss any concerns, and determine whether working together feels like the right fit for you. My goal is for you to leave our first session with a clearer understanding of the therapeutic process and what moving forward together might look like.
