Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm TJ — a Marriage and Family Therapist and the founder of A Better You Wellness, LLC. I work with couples, individuals, families, and teens (17+) across Texas, offering both in-person sessions in the Fort Worth area and teletherapy statewide.

My training is deeply relational. I graduated from North Central University with a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, and I hold additional certifications as a Certified Trauma Professional, Master NLP Practitioner, and Hypnotherapist — training that shapes how I think about healing beyond the surface level. I specialize in relationship challenges including communication breakdowns, infidelity and trust repair, and premarital counseling, along with anxiety, depression, trauma, codependency, career stress, life transitions, and self-esteem.

What sets my approach apart is a philosophy of integration. I believe that meaningful, lasting healing rarely comes from one method alone. The experiences that shape us — especially the hard ones — leave imprints on the mind and body, and I honor both in my work. Clients often tell me they feel heard from the very first conversation, and that's something I take seriously.

My approach to therapy

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I work from a Family Systems lens — which means I understand you (and your relationship) within the larger context of your history, culture, and the patterns you've inherited. I don't just treat symptoms; I help you understand where they come from and what they've been protecting you from.

I draw from several evidence-based modalities — including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Gestalt — weaving them together based on what each person or couple actually needs. I also integrate polyvagal-informed techniques to support nervous system regulation, because real change often happens in the body first.

My goal isn't just to give you insights — it's to equip you with tools you can use between sessions, so you're building momentum in your everyday life, not just in the therapy room. I believe healing is possible. I've seen it. And I'll meet you wherever you are in that process.

What you can expect from me

First and foremost — you can expect to feel welcomed, not evaluated. My first session is a space for me to learn about you and your family of origin, and for you to share what's brought you here, at whatever pace feels right. I'm not there to hand down a diagnosis or a to-do list. I'm there to understand your story.

We'll spend time talking through what's been most challenging, what you've already tried, and what you most want to change or heal. For couples, I work to make both partners feel equally seen. For individuals, we begin mapping the patterns that have been running the show, often without your full awareness.

By the end of our first session, you'll have a clearer sense of how we might work together, and I'll have a beginning picture of what a tailored treatment path could look like for you. The goal is that you leave feeling more hopeful — and a little less alone in it — than when you arrived.
