Great to meet you!

Hello! Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and I’m honored you’re here. My name is Thomas Alegria, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with experience working across a variety of clinical settings, including nonprofit organizations, private practice, inpatient hospital settings, and both in-person and remote counseling environments. These experiences have allowed me to work with individuals from many different backgrounds and have strengthened my passion for helping clients navigate life’s challenges with compassion, understanding, and practical support.

I strive to create a safe, affirming, and supportive environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves while building the skills, confidence, and self-awareness needed to thrive in their daily lives and relationships.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is rooted in a humanistic, person-centered philosophy, where I believe every client deserves to feel heard, respected, and supported in a safe, nonjudgmental environment. I strive to create an affirming and collaborative space where clients feel comfortable being themselves while working toward meaningful growth and change.

I incorporate evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), to help clients build insight, strengthen coping skills, improve self-awareness, and develop practical tools to navigate life’s challenges. I take a strengths-based approach to counseling by focusing on each client’s unique abilities, resilience, and experiences rather than solely on their challenges.

My goal is not only to help clients work through current concerns, but also to empower them with the confidence and skills needed to continue thriving long after counseling ends. Whether working with individuals, couples, families, or neurodivergent clients, I value authenticity, empathy, collaboration, and creating a therapeutic environment where clients feel genuinely supported and understood.

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect their first session to be a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where they have the opportunity to share their concerns, experiences, and goals at their own pace. My priority is to help clients feel comfortable, heard, and understood while beginning to build a strong therapeutic relationship rooted in trust, collaboration, and empathy.

During the first session, we will discuss what brings you to therapy, explore any current challenges or stressors, and identify goals you would like to work toward. I also take time to learn about your strengths, support systems, and personal experiences so I can better understand you as a whole person rather than focusing solely on challenges or symptoms.
