Our first session is one of the most important parts of beginning therapy. My goal is to create a comfortable and welcoming space where I can get to know you....not just what brings you to therapy, but who you are as a person.
We’ll spend time connecting and talking about your interests, some of your background and experiences, your strengths, current challenges, and what you hope to gain from therapy. Whether this is your first experience with therapy or you’ve been in therapy before, beginning with someone new can feel like a big step. I want you to feel as comfortable, supported, and understood as possible.
During our first session, I may also spend a little more time completing the intake process and asking questions so I can gain a deeper understanding of what you’re experiencing, what you’re seeking support for, and how I can best help you. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and begin determining whether I feel like the right therapeutic fit for you.
We’ll also review important information such as confidentiality and its limits, what you can expect from me as your therapist, and what you can expect from our work together. Most importantly, our first session is about beginning to build a therapeutic relationship based on trust, safety, collaboration, and connection.
