Great to meet you!

Hello! My name is Dr. Tiffany Ortiz and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. I work with individuals of all ages and have a specialization in children, adolescents, and their families. My main aim is to support the healing process and movement towards growth. By providing a warm, comfortable, and safe therapeutic space, I help clients become self-aware, create meaning out of experiences, and develop skills to manage difficulties.

I have extensive experience working with clients throughout the lifespan and from multiculturally diverse backgrounds. My focus is on strengthening the therapeutic relationship, striving for allyship, and celebrating differences. I have found that my approach has supported many clients who have experienced significant life events, such as trauma, life transitions, grief and loss, medical conditions, parenting, and interpersonal and family issues. Typically, this may be manifested through perinatal mental health issues, parenting difficulties, depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, ongoing stress, and difficulties navigating social situations.

A bit about my approach to therapy

Incorporating psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and multicultural perspectives, I have an integrative and eclectic approach to treatment. It is my belief understanding the source of emotional difficulties and challenges develop insight and understanding within the self. This in turn will help strengthen the emotional capacity to shift thinking and better manage struggles.

In working with children and adolescents, my approach is relational and attachment-based. My therapeutic style utilizes creativity, play, and activity to help facilitate emotional process and mental health growth. I strongly encourage parental/caregiver involvement in treatment for access to behavioral observations at home/school as well as understanding family dynamics. Involvement supports strengthening familial relationships, cohesiveness within familial unit, and facilitating emotional and behavioral changes

What you can expect from our first session

My main priority is you. I want to ensure my clients feel comfortable and safe in therapy. I truly under understand therapy may not always be easy, therefore sessions are client-led. I follow the lead of the client and fully support the process. My approach involves co-creating a strong therapeutic alliance with clients through my warm and friendly nature with the use of humor and genuine interest in getting to know clients on a deeper level.

The first session involves conducting a comprehensive initial assessment, gathering background history, reason for referral, and current mental health concerns as well as any relevant information needed to understand the current situation. With that, my aim is also to actively listen and build rapport with the client to help set a safe and nonjudgmental therapeutic environment. For children and teen clients, the first sessions involve additional information from parents and/or caregivers to understand their perspective of their child and their main concerns. Sessions may be structured to obtain significant information.
