Great to meet you!

I’m Timothy Shin, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in the North Dallas–Addison area. I work with adults and teens who are navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, stress, and questions of identity and purpose. Before opening Oak Tree Counseling and Wellness, I gained experience supporting clients in community settings and private practice. I earned my master’s degree in counseling at Southern Methodist University and have been licensed since 2021.

Clients often tell me I bring a calm and grounded presence into the room. Outside of counseling, I enjoy staying active, spending time with my dog, and finding balance through fitness, travel, and connecting with my community. I believe therapy should feel like a safe, collaborative space where you don’t have to go through struggles alone.

My approach to therapy

My approach is person-centered, multicultural, and collaborative. We’ll work together to identify what matters most to you and explore both the challenges and strengths shaping your life. I integrate evidence-based practices such as CBT to address thought patterns, EMDR for trauma and stuck memories, and practical coping strategies to support day-to-day resilience.

I value empathy and structure equally: you can expect a space that feels compassionate and nonjudgmental, while also having enough direction to move toward meaningful change. I also bring sensitivity to cultural and spiritual backgrounds, honoring the full context of your life.

What you can expect from me

You can expect to leave sessions feeling understood, less alone, and with a clearer sense of direction. Together, we’ll work on reframing unhelpful patterns, strengthening relationships, and building practical tools that support your growth. My goal is that you walk away with both insight into your story and concrete steps you can take outside of session.

Over time, many clients notice a greater sense of clarity, balance, and confidence in how they approach life’s challenges.
