Great to meet you!

Tish Buckholtz (they/them) is a non-binary LCSW and EMDR therapist who focuses on trauma-informed care. Tish specializes in the TQ2SLGB and BIPOC communities and welcomes all identities. Tish is a person with lived mental unwellness experience and a community organizer who brings a comprehensive approach to care. Tish spent 17 years providing clinical case management and supportive counseling in homes, schools, residential settings, and an inpatient psychiatric facility. Tish has been practicing as a therapist for 4 years at a community-based clinic. Tish has had experience providing support for people with all identities living in extreme states such as dissociation, those who identify as Voice Hearers and Vision Seers, people struggling with severe expressions of mood such as anxiety, anger, depression, trauma responses, and relief seeking through substance and self-harm.

Tish graduated with a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Houston in 2012 and is a current participant in IDHA’s Transformative Mental Health Core Curriculum. Tish is a bi-cultural person who was born and raised on the occupied region of Susquehannock & Lenapehoking Lands on the East Coast by their maternal grandparents.

My approach to therapy

Tish believes in addressing the mind, body, spirit, and emotional self through decolonized and liberation psychology perspectives. Tish believes that the entire person deserves care when they are seeking support. Tish will assist in developing carceral alternatives to care, such as T-Maps, Pod Maps, and Peer Respite or support options. You will be challenged to look beyond you and examine how historical and intergenerational challenges impact present systems of oppression in society that are influencing your mental health. We will also work together towards social justice and addressing all forms of oppression that are applicable.

What you can expect from me

A warm invitation to explore the root issues, collaborative goal setting, and naming the challenge in clinical language.
