Great to meet you!

My name is Tiya (tie-ya) Johnson; I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor here at Headway. I look forward to welcoming you into our safe space. I am a flexible therapist who strongly believes that compassion, dedication, and reliability are the foundation of a healthy therapeutic relationship. My goal is to create a judgment-free atmosphere filled with empathy to support my clients in reaching their goals.

A bit about my approach to therapy

One misconception about therapy is that people attend, because they feel or believe they’re broken or needing to be fixed. I want to remind everyone that in no shape, form or fashion are you broken. Instead, let's view it from a different perspective. You have taken challenges and resolved them in the best way you knew how with the skills that you had at the time.

In some instances, you have either failed or passed those challenges. However, some of those challenges may have left some scars, scrapes, bruises, or deep wounds that need to be worked through. This is where I come in! I specialize in working with people struggling with past trauma, depression, anxiety, and childhood challenges.

What you can expect from our first session

I have been trained in various treatment approaches. The three theoretical approaches I enjoy using are Cognitive processing therapy, Dialectical behavior therapy, and Narrative therapy. Cognitive Processing Therapy examines areas you remain stuck in and challenges the client to increase forward movement in areas of safety, trust, esteem, power, and control. Dialectical behavior therapy looks to reform and challenge negative thinking while focusing on mindfulness. Narrative therapy takes and retells your story from your perspective, giving you back the power.

When you share a space with me, I want you to feel safe, heard, and respected. A strong client and therapist dynamic will cultivate an environment that offers the client space for optimum change. I am committed to us developing this dynamic because therapy, like many relationships, starts with a genuine connection. So, let's take the time together and learn new ways to face these challenges and heal. Let’s take this journey together!

No Personal information will be shared with any thrid party.
