Great to meet you!

Toby Hawkins, LCSW (New York licensed) is a supportive, compassionate, collaborative therapist who specializes in individual therapy & relationship therapy. Toby will invite you to explore relational dynamics, deepen your connection with your partner (s), and work through challenges together. Toby is committed to creating an inclusive space where all couples, especially those in the LGBTQ+ community, can feel seen, heard, and supported.

Toby specializes in attachment wounds and developmental trauma, namely exploring how early attachment experiences and childhood relationships shape the way we relate to one another. Toby will offer space to help you uncover how past experiences may be affecting your current relationship dynamics, including supporting you to understand your relationship patterns and working with you to create new ways of relating that promote security, trust, and deeper emotional connection.

Toby is trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Somatic Therapy and Narrative Therapy and will use these techniques to create a tailored plan to best support you.

My approach to therapy

Therapy with me is active and goal-oriented. I focus on practical tools that you can implement immediately to improve communication, resolve conflict, and build a deeper sense of connection. We will work on skills such as active listening, setting healthy boundaries, and developing strategies to manage stress and anxiety within the relationship. Through this work, you will both gain greater insight into each other's needs, desires, and emotional experiences, enhancing mutual understanding and intimacy.

I take a relational, strengths-based, and humanistic approach to therapy, which means I value the unique qualities and strengths each of you brings to the partnership. Therapy is not just about talking—it’s about creating meaningful change. You will feel heard, respected, and supported as we work together to identify existing strengths and build on them to foster a more secure and fulfilling relationship. My goal is to help you both feel empowered, validated, and equipped with practical strategies to create the relationship you want.

What you can expect from me

I work best with couples who are ready to actively engage in the therapeutic process. Change requires effort, and I am committed to providing the tools, insights, and support you need to take action—whether that means practicing new communication techniques, challenging old patterns, or confronting difficult emotions. Growth in therapy takes courage and a willingness to step outside of your comfort zone, and I will be there every step of the way to guide and support you.

I understand that relationships can be complex and sometimes overwhelming, and I am here to support you both as you navigate stress, communication struggles, and emotional highs and lows. If you are seeking a therapist who can help you transform your relationship with empathy, intention, and practical guidance, I would be honored to work with you both. Together, we can work towards deepening your emotional connection, improving your communication, and creating a thriving, loving partnership.
