Great to meet you!

My name is Tomitamunokuma Tariah, and I am a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with training from Walden University. I work with adults and seniors, and I bring a broad, deeply integrative approach to mental health care — one that takes seriously the full complexity of what it means to be a human being navigating health, identity, and life.

My primary clinical areas include bipolar disorder, PTSD, ADD/ADHD, depression, and anxiety. My treatment reach extends considerably further: I work with clients experiencing trauma, grief, borderline personality, OCD, eating disorders, panic disorders, anger management challenges, substance use, sleep difficulties, stress, and family concerns. I also offer specialized support in areas that are often underserved — including gender dysphoria, maternal mental health, the emotional dimensions of infertility, and the psychological impact of living with chronic physical conditions like diabetes.

Additionally, I offer neuropsychological testing for clients who need a deeper clinical understanding of how their brain is functioning — from attention and memory to executive skills and processing.

I believe that mental health cannot be separated from the body, from identity, or from the circumstances of a person's life. My practice is built to honor that wholeness.

My approach to therapy

My approach is trauma-informed, holistic, and grounded in evidence — shaped by a deep conviction that effective care must address not just symptoms, but the full person.

Trauma Focused CBT anchors my practice for clients carrying the weight of traumatic experiences. This specialized approach — distinct from general CBT — is designed specifically to address trauma's impact on thoughts, feelings, and behavior. It is structured, evidence-based, and deeply respectful of the pace each person needs to heal.

I pair this with Behavioral Therapy and Behavior Management Therapy to help clients develop practical strategies for changing the patterns — in behavior, habit, and response — that are causing harm or keeping them stuck. These approaches are especially effective for ADD/ADHD, anger management, impulse control, and building new daily structures.

I also draw on Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to orient our work toward possibility and progress — helping clients reconnect with their strengths and take concrete steps toward the life they want.

For clients navigating gender dysphoria, infertility, maternal mental health challenges, or chronic illness like diabetes, I bring both clinical knowledge and genuine sensitivity to the unique psychological terrain these experiences involve. I understand that these are not simply "add-on" concerns — they can be central to a person's sense of self, their relationships, and their daily functioning.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, I want to understand you — not just your diagnosis or your symptoms, but your life, your history, and what matters to you.

We'll talk about what's brought you in, how things have been feeling, and what you're hoping our work together might help you achieve. I'll ask about your mental health and medical background, and I'll pay attention to how your physical health, identity, and life circumstances connect to what you're experiencing — because those connections are rarely incidental.

For clients coming in around more sensitive or specialized areas — gender identity, reproductive health, chronic illness — I approach these with care and without assumption. You will not need to explain yourself or educate me; you can simply focus on what you need.

By the end of our first session, we'll have a beginning sense of direction: what we're focusing on, how we'll approach it, and what next steps look like. Medication options, if relevant, will be discussed openly and collaboratively. Nothing is decided without your full understanding and agreement.

Whatever complexity you bring, there is space for it here — and I am glad you came.
