Great to meet you!

I'm Toni — a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner based in Chesapeake, Virginia. I've spent 17 years in human services and 8 years in private practice, working primarily with Black families, teens, adults, and older adults across the Hampton Roads region. What sets my practice apart is that I don't separate faith from healing. I bring Christian principles into the counseling relationship for clients who want that — and evidence-based tools for everyone. I've worked with people navigating depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, grief, substance use, and the kind of behavioral challenges with kids that can wear a whole family down.I'm direct. I'm warm. And I have a genuine heart for people who are ready to do the real work — not just manage symptoms, but understand themselves.

My approach to therapy

I believe solutions are most powerful when they're self-discovered. My job isn't to hand you answers — it's to help you recognize what's already inside you and build the tools to act on it.In practice, that means I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing — depending on what you bring to the room. For clients who want faith integrated into their work, I weave that in naturally, not forcibly. For those who don't, the same evidence-based framework applies.I work with individuals and families. I'm comfortable with preteens and I'm equally at home working with elders 65+. Each session is shaped by what you need that day — not a rigid script.

What you can expect from me

Expect a real conversation. The first session isn't a test — it's a chance for us to figure out if this is the right fit and where to start. I'll ask about what's bringing you in, what your life looks like, and what you want to be different. You don't need to have it all figured out to show up. The relationship we build in that first session is the foundation everything else grows from — and I take that seriously. Together we will build a rapport and a plan to assist you in becoming a better, more productive version of yourself.
