Great to meet you!

My name is Tonia Spaulding, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I believe that meaningful change is possible when clients feel heard, supported, and empowered. My approach to counseling is collaborative and compassionate—I work alongside you, not as an authority over you.

I specialize in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy. This means I help clients build practical skills to manage emotions, cope with stress, improve relationships, and move toward their goals while also focusing on strengths and solutions rather than problems alone. I value progress at your pace and tailor therapy to fit your unique needs and life experiences.

I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can be open, honest, and yourself. Whether you are seeking support during a difficult season or looking to develop healthier coping strategies, my goal is to help you feel empowered, understood, and confident in your ability to create positive change.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is collaborative, supportive, and goal-oriented. I primarily use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy to help clients develop practical skills for managing emotions, navigating challenges, and creating meaningful change in their lives.

Through DBT, I focus on helping clients build skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. With a Solution-Focused approach, we concentrate on strengths, solutions, and achievable goals rather than staying stuck in problems. Together, we identify what’s already working and build upon it.

I believe therapy should be a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. I tailor each session to meet your individual needs and move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. My goal is to help you gain insight, develop confidence, and create lasting change that aligns with your values and goals.

What you can expect from me

During your first session, you can expect a welcoming, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment. We will spend time getting to know each other and discussing what brings you to therapy, your concerns, and what you hope to gain from counseling.

I will ask questions to better understand your experiences, strengths, and goals, while also allowing space for you to share at your own pace. We may talk about your history, current challenges, and what has or hasn’t worked for you in the past. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about therapy and my approach.

Together, we will begin identifying goals and exploring how DBT and Solution-Focused strategies can support your needs. There is no pressure to share everything at once—my priority is helping you feel comfortable, heard, and supported as we begin our work together.
