Great to meet you!

Taking the first step toward improving your mental health can feel overwhelming, especially when you are struggling with emotional distress, difficulty concentrating, mood changes, or challenges affecting your daily life. You deserve compassionate care from someone who genuinely listens, understands your concerns, and respects your individual experiences.

I am Tony Orafunam, DNP, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to helping children and adults navigate mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, insomnia, and other psychiatric conditions.

I believe that effective psychiatric care extends beyond prescribing medications. My approach combines comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, individualized medication management, supportive psychotherapy, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions tailored to your unique needs and treatment goals.

Whether you are seeking psychiatric care for the first time, struggling with persistent symptoms, or looking for a provider who will listen and work collaboratively with you, my commitment is to provide a welcoming, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel heard, valued, and supported.

Together, we will focus on improving your emotional well-being, strengthening resilience, restoring daily functioning, and helping you achieve meaningful, sustainable progress toward mental wellness.

My philosophy of care is simple: Compassionate Care. Stronger Minds. Healthier Lives.

My approach to therapy

My approach to psychiatric care is compassionate, collaborative, evidence-based, and individualized. As a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with clinical experience in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and medication management, I recognize that every patient's mental health journey is unique and deserves personalized attention.

I integrate comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, individualized medication management, supportive psychotherapy, and evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions, and compassion-focused therapy.

During appointments, I utilize CBT to help patients identify and modify unhelpful thought patterns, ACT to strengthen psychological flexibility and values-based decision-making, and mindfulness techniques to improve emotional awareness and stress management. Supportive psychotherapy and psychoeducation are incorporated to reinforce adaptive coping skills, emotional resilience, and treatment adherence.

My clinical philosophy emphasizes shared decision-making, transparent communication, and continuity of care. I work collaboratively with patients to develop realistic treatment goals, evaluate therapeutic progress, and adjust treatment strategies according to their individual needs.

Above all, I strive to provide a welcoming, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment where patients feel genuinely heard, understood, and empowered to achieve lasting improvements in their mental health and overall quality of life.

What you can expect from me

Your first appointment is an opportunity for us to get acquainted, discuss your mental health concerns, and begin building a trusting, collaborative relationship. I understand that meeting a new psychiatric provider can sometimes feel intimidating, especially when discussing personal or sensitive experiences. Please know that you will be welcomed into a compassionate, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment where your comfort, dignity, and privacy are priorities.

Our initial appointment will follow a structured yet conversational format, conducted through a secure video platform for telehealth visits or in a private clinical setting for in-person appointments. We will begin by discussing your primary concerns, current symptoms, psychiatric and medical history, previous treatments, medications, and personal circumstances. You will have ample opportunity to ask questions, express concerns, and share information at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

There is no need to feel nervous or pressured to have all the answers. My role is to listen attentively, understand your experiences, and guide you through the evaluation with empathy and professionalism. You are encouraged to participate actively, ask for clarification, and express your preferences throughout the appointment.

Following our assessment, we will review my clinical impressions and collaboratively develop an individualized treatment plan, which may include medication management, supportive psychotherapy, psychoeducation, and practical coping strategies when clinically appropriate.

My goal is for you to leave your first session feeling heard, respected, reassured, and informed about the next steps in your care. Your voice matters, your preferences are respected, and your mental wellness remains our shared priority.
