Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Travis Buchanan, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and Licensed Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LAADC). I know that reaching out for help can be one of the hardest steps a person takes, and I consider it a privilege to walk alongside clients as they navigate life's challenges.

Over the years, I've worked with individuals facing a wide range of struggles, including relationship difficulties, addiction and recovery, grief and loss, anxiety, stress, and the impact of unhealthy or abusive relationships. My experience has taught me that while our challenges may shape us, they do not define us.

I believe that every person has the capacity for growth, healing, and meaningful change. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to your unique story. Rather than offering quick fixes or one-size-fits-all solutions, I strive to create a safe, supportive space where you can feel understood, gain insight, and discover new ways of moving forward.

Drawing from Adlerian principles and other evidence-based approaches, I help clients identify patterns that may be keeping them stuck, strengthen their relationships, build resilience, and develop practical tools for lasting change. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, struggling with addiction, or simply seeking a greater sense of purpose and fulfillment, therapy can provide a path toward a healthier and more meaningful life.

My goal is to help you not only overcome obstacles but also build the confidence, connection, and sense of direction needed to thrive. Wherever you are in your journey, you don't have to face it alone.

My approach to therapy

I believe each person is the expert on their own life and possesses strengths, resilience, and resources that can be rediscovered and strengthened through the therapeutic process. From an Adlerian perspective, symptoms are often understood within the context of a person's life experiences, relationships, beliefs, and striving for significance and belonging.

Many people come to therapy feeling discouraged, disconnected, or limited by past experiences and current challenges. Rather than focusing solely on problems or diagnoses, I work collaboratively with clients to identify patterns, uncover hidden strengths, and develop greater insight into how their experiences have shaped their perceptions and choices. An important part of this process is reducing shame and stigma while fostering self-understanding, self-acceptance, and courage.

My goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment where clients feel understood and empowered to make meaningful changes. Through increased awareness, encouragement, and purposeful action, clients can build on their strengths, deepen their connections with others, and move toward a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

What you can expect from me

The initial intake session is an opportunity for us to begin building a therapeutic relationship and gain a deeper understanding of what has brought you to therapy. During this appointment, I will gather information about your current concerns, personal history, relationships, strengths, and goals for treatment. I believe that you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to work collaboratively with you to better understand your experiences and identify meaningful paths toward growth and change.

We will also review important information about the therapy process, including my professional background, confidentiality, practice policies, and what you can expect from our work together. In keeping with a client-centered approach, I strive to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel heard, understood, and encouraged. Together, we will develop a treatment plan that reflects your unique goals, values, and vision for the future.
