Great to meet you!

Hello,

I’m Travis W. Nelson, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and the founder of Real Talk Therapy & Consultation.

I work with individuals and couples who are dealing with trauma, stress, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. My approach is real, direct, and supportive—I create a space where you can speak openly without feeling judged or misunderstood.

My background includes emergency psychiatry, community mental health, and private practice, which allows me to work with a wide range of concerns—from everyday stress to more complex challenges like PTSD and high-pressure environments. I’m also a Veteran, and I have experience supporting individuals who carry the impact of trauma, responsibility, and long-term stress.

I also work with couples to improve communication, rebuild trust, and navigate relationship challenges in a more intentional and healthy way.

In therapy, I focus on helping you understand patterns, improve communication, and develop practical tools that you can actually use in your daily life. This isn’t just a space to talk—it’s a space to gain clarity, build awareness, and move forward with purpose.

If you’re looking for a therapist who will meet you where you are, keep it real with you, and support you in making meaningful changes, I’m here to help.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is collaborative, direct, and practical. I focus on helping clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, while also developing tools they can apply in their everyday lives.

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and trauma-informed approaches to help identify patterns that may be contributing to stress, anxiety, or emotional challenges. At the same time, I create space for real conversations—especially around the things that are difficult to talk about.

In our work together, we focus on building insight, improving communication, and creating meaningful, sustainable change. My goal is for you to not only feel heard and supported, but to leave sessions with clarity and tools you can actually use.

What you can expect from me

During our first session, we’ll take time to talk about what’s been going on and what led you to seek therapy. This is a space for you to share your experience openly, at your own pace.

I’ll ask questions to better understand your background, current stressors, and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. We’ll also begin identifying goals and what meaningful progress might look like for you.

You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and get a feel for how I work. My approach is collaborative and direct, but always supportive.

My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, respected, and with a clearer sense of direction moving forward.
