Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Triana Smith, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and I believe you don’t have to navigate life’s hardest seasons alone. Therapy can be a place to slow down, feel understood, and make sense of what you’ve been experiencing without fear of judgment.

I have experience working with adolescents, adults, couples, and families, with particular interests in trauma, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationships, identity, and major life transitions. With 3,500+ direct clinical hours, I’ve had the opportunity to work with people from many different backgrounds and at many different stages of life.

I especially enjoy working with people who may feel disconnected from themselves, overwhelmed by life’s demands, or unsure of who they are or what comes next. I also work with individuals and couples navigating communication difficulties, relationship patterns, emotional disconnection, grief, or the impact of past experiences on their current relationships.

My background includes trauma-focused work, and I approach each client with curiosity, compassion, and respect for their individual story. I believe that even the parts of ourselves we may feel ashamed of, frustrated by, or wish we could change deserve to be understood rather than judged.

For clients who desire it, I also provide Christian, faith-integrated therapy. Faith can be a meaningful source of hope, identity, strength, and healing, and I’m happy to incorporate Christian beliefs, values, and spirituality into therapy when that is important to you. You never have to fit into a particular mold—our work will always be guided by your needs, values, and goals.

My hope is that therapy becomes a place where you can move from simply surviving to truly thriving—developing greater self-understanding, healthier relationships, stronger confidence, and a deeper sense of purpose.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and trauma-informed. I don’t believe therapy should feel like someone sitting across from you simply telling you what to do. Instead, I see therapy as a partnership where we work together to understand what is happening, recognize patterns, and develop practical ways to create meaningful change.

I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and other collaborative approaches. I tailor these approaches to each individual rather than using a one-size-fits-all model. Your experiences, personality, relationships, values, and goals all matter when determining what will be most helpful.

Trauma-informed care is an important part of my work. I recognize that past experiences can influence the way we see ourselves, respond to others, manage emotions, and navigate relationships. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we can explore what may be underneath them and develop healthier ways of responding.

I also believe therapy should be both insightful and practical. Understanding why something happens is important, but I want you to leave therapy with tools you can actually use outside of our sessions. Depending on your needs, we may work on communication, boundaries, emotional regulation, thought patterns, self-esteem, coping skills, relationship dynamics, or reconnecting with your sense of identity.

Most importantly, I want you to feel comfortable being your authentic self in therapy. You don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin, and you don’t have to know exactly what you need. We can figure that out together.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin understanding what brought you to therapy. You don’t need to prepare a perfect explanation of what you’re experiencing, and you don’t have to know exactly where to start. We can take it one step at a time.

We’ll talk about what has been happening in your life, what concerns you would like support with, and what you hope will be different as a result of therapy. I’ll also ask questions about your background, relationships, current stressors, strengths, and experiences that may help me better understand your perspective.

I want your first session to feel like a conversation rather than an interrogation. My goal is to create a comfortable, judgment-free environment where you can begin sharing at your own pace. You are always welcome to tell me if something feels too personal, if you need to slow down, or if there is something specific you would like us to focus on.

We’ll also begin identifying goals for therapy and discussing what treatment may look like moving forward. If you’re unsure of your goals, that’s okay too. Sometimes the first goal is simply understanding yourself and your situation more clearly.

Most importantly, I want you to leave your first session feeling heard, respected, and hopeful that change is possible. Building a therapeutic relationship takes time, and my goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable returning, being honest, and doing the work at a pace that feels right for you.
