Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Tyra Steverson, a licensed professional counselor and owner of 290 Therapy. I primarily work with individuals who are navigating anxiety, life transitions, identity development, relationship stress, and the emotional weight of being “the strong one.” I spent several years in various counseling roles supporting diverse clients with anxiety, depression, racial stress, and major transitions, and I now bring that experience into private practice. My approach is culturally responsive and grounded in psychodynamic therapy, trauma-informed, and narrative work, with a strong multicultural and feminist lens. I aim to create a space that feels honest, grounding, and collaborative, where clients can better understand their patterns, build self-trust, and move toward lives and relationships that feel more aligned and sustainable.

My approach to therapy

In sessions with me, you can expect a real conversation. I’m direct, present, and engaged, and I tend to work well with clients who want honesty and depth rather than just surface-level coping. I listen for patterns in how you relate to yourself and others, and I’ll name what I notice so we can make sense of it together. I value authenticity over perfection, so there’s room for humor, real talk, and complexity in the room. I support clients in getting clearer about what they feel, what they need, and how they want to show up in their lives and relationships. Therapy with me is a space to be honest, slow down, and do meaningful work that actually translates outside of session.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, you can expect a relaxed but focused conversation where I’m getting to know you, what’s bringing you to therapy, and what you’re hoping will feel different in your life. I’ll ask questions to understand your history, current stressors, and patterns, and you’re welcome to ask me anything about how I work. My goal is to create a space that feels comfortable, honest, and grounded so you can show up as you are without feeling judged or rushed. By the end of the first session, we’ll usually have a clearer sense of what you want to work on, how therapy can support you, and whether we feel like a good fit to continue working together.
