Great to meet you!

Valerie Murphy is a licensed therapist who helps high-achieving adults manage high-functioning anxiety, perfectionism, and self-worth. She uses a trauma-informed, holistic approach with CBT, EMDR, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), and mindfulness-based tools to support lasting change and emotional resilience. Valerie specializes in helping clients shift patterns that no longer serve them—including the deep-rooted belief of not feeling good enough—and works collaboratively to build a more compassionate, grounded sense of self.

Valerie graduated from Pepperdine University and has been licensed since 2015. She opened her private practice in 2016. She works with individuals across the lifespan, including older adolescents (16+), college-age clients (her favorite population), adults, and senior citizens. Her specialties include EMDR, trauma, attachment wounds, perfectionism rooted in shame, and acceptance-based approaches that support meaning, growth, and emotional flexibility.

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic approach is described as holistic integrating the mind, body, emotions and spirituality by increasing awareness through mindful, solution focused action

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect to leave sessions with a clear understanding of what we’re working on and why, along with specific, actionable steps they can take between sessions. In our work together, I take a collaborative approach—offering guidance and education on tools such as mindfulness practices, cognitive reframing, nervous system regulation, and values-based action, which clients can apply in daily life. Sessions are structured, supportive, and focused on helping clients build insight, shift unhelpful patterns, and create meaningful, lasting change.
