Great to meet you!

I began work as a therapist in 2004. I graduated from Texas State and worked in nonprofits before I began my private practice in 2010.

I specialize in mood disorders, especially bipolar disorder, and anxiety. Educating clients about their mental illness and how they can become mentally healthy is my passion. I work with all kinds of folks, but because I'm multi-racial, I like to reach out to POCs.

A bit about my approach to therapy

I'm trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. ACT is evidence-based but it's also an affirming approach. I also trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and utilize many of its techniques: mindfulness, Wise Mind, and learning to examine, rather than accept, thoughts. I'm client-centered: judgment is not my style and the client determines what therapeutic needs will be addressed. Therapy is so serious so humor is necessary, and I love to laugh.

What you can expect from our first session

At the beginning, I ask questions to understand the client's therapeutic goals.. I start teaching coping skills next, to help manage difficult thoughts and behaviors. Homework may be assigned: using apps, such as mood tracker or short online meditations for anxiety or intrusive and repetitive thoughts. Then we can move into examining the roots of the negative thoughts and feelings: some need was being met in an unhealthy way. How can those needs be met in a more positive way?
