Great to meet you!

Good to meet you!

As a licensed professional counselor, I work with individuals, couples, and families from all walks of life to help them find relief from emotional and cognitive symptoms that interfere with their life and to improve their relationships. I was drawn to this field out of my own life experiences and the impact that they had on my own mental health. When I got to the other side of my own challenges and could function well, I asked myself what was important to me and realized that it was helping others find the freedom and relief that I was experiencing. Therefore, I returned to school in my late 30s to become a counselor and have never regretted the decision.

My approach to therapy

I use an individualized approach to therapy in order to adapt to the specific needs and personality of my client. Whereas one client might need only the right questions at the right moment in an affirming and genuine environment to make the progress they want to achieve, another client would benefit more from a cognitive-behavioral approach and wants homework to complete between sessions. (Yes! Some people want homework!) Still others require a deeper approach to address issues stemming from experiences like traumatic experiences, abuse, and toxic parenting. I draw most strongly on techniques from the evidence-based approaches of Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral, Reality, Family Systems, Dialectical Behavioral, and Schema Therapy. I also utilize EMDR when a clients needs warrant this approach.

What you can expect from me

During your first session, you will first have the opportunity to ask any additional questions about me and my approach to therapy. You will then have the opportunity to talk about what has prompted you to seek counseling, what you hope to gain from counseling, and some of the story that has brought you to be the person that you are in the place that you are in your life. You will have the opportunity to complete much of the required assessment materials online beforehand so that we can make the most of our time together. By the end of the session, we will have an idea of your goals for therapy and how to approach them, though these goals and our approach will continue to be developed as we get to know each other better and treatment is shaped to you and your needs.
